I kind of found myself in a weird place a few months ago. When I first created my instagram account, it was a place to showcase my creativity and personal style while inspiring others. I remember feeling so nervous to hit publish on my first post, but once I did, there was no looking back. Then a few months went by, and it seemed as if there was a certain recipe of what was working for others in this space. Maybe if I pose more like this, and wear more things like that, I will do better and grow more. Maybe I’ll have more affiliate sales if I change my style, because no one is buying my over the top looks. Should I change my style to casual, athleisure looks?
So I started to conform. And it was fine for a few months; I started to (quite literally) see a shift on my feed & aesthetic. But what I also saw was a shift on my mindset. I didn’t get excited to plan looks or go shoot new photos. Honestly, I would kind of half-ass it and throw some stuff together, then wonder why on shoot days I was feeling blah and uninspired. I felt lost in who I was in this space, and wasn’t excited to create anymore.

As I was planning an upcoming shoot day, I recognized I was in a rut with my photos, always the same recipe: outfit, standing up, purse in hand as a prop. Honestly I was over it. I felt the need to make something. This summer, I had made matching flower crowns for our family photos, and it was so fun! Plus, they just added some oomph to the photo. But I’m not just going to go rock a flower crown downtown in a trendy outfit holding my purse and smiling at the camera. So I went to my closet, found this beautiful top that had yet to be worn, and decided this ball gown skirt was the only option to complete the look. This felt so dreamy, mystical, and out of my ordinary lately….I got excited to go shoot some photos and get creative!
THIS. these photos, this style, this art. THIS is me. I am here to create; to create art and to create community. And to hopefully inspire others in some way; whether its through my art, my journey, my style, or simply my boring everyday life with my crazy little family. Thank you for being here!
If you’re feeling lost in who you are, what you’re doing or what you are meant to be, I urge you to take some time to think what moves you.
Do you feel like you have ever conformed to something on social media?
