If there is one thing I have realized about myself over time, it is how much the weather can seriously affect my mood. Bright sunny day? I can conquer the world. Grey and rainy day? Give me a blanket, Netflix and my couch because that’s about all I want to do.
Here are some things that help me pull myself together and boost my mood instead of falling into a rainy day slump:

Make a rainy day playlist
If you’ve known me for a while, you know how much I love music. I always have at least 1-2 concerts on the horizon; I love discovering and sharing new music, and I’m usually listening to something at all times. Music is so good for the soul, and we all have our songs that literally pump us up. Take 5 minutes to scroll through your iTunes and pick out your most favorite, upbeat jams and add them to a new playlist – go ahead and name it Rainy Day Playlist so you know exactly where to find it! For me, that looks like a healthy dose of Beyonce, T-swift, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Florida Georgia Line!
Get a solid workout in (the earlier, the better)
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I am 90% more likely to workout if I do so earlier in the day. Now, I know it’s not always a possibility, but I try to set my week with intention and plan my workouts in advance. When I workout, it truly changes my entire day (I eat healthier, I’m in a better mood, I’m more productive) so on rainy days, this is especially important to me! It is that much harder to push myself on these days, however, I feel that much more satisfied after I check it off my to-do list. Which brings me to #3…
Make a to-do list and check things off (literally)
I honestly live by to-do lists, but they are so important to me on days when I’m in a slump. And nothing puts me in a slump more than a gloomy, rainy day. On these days, as soon as I have had my first cup of coffee (ahem…or two), I pull out my trusty Kate Spade To-Do List notepad and let the ink hit the paper. I try to list out at least 2-3 attainable goals or tasks so that I can hold myself accountable and productive throughout the day instead of Netflix and chilling. And once I’ve completed a task, I cross it right off my list. Is there any better feeling?
Amp up your rainy day style
I recently discovered these waterproof Totes Cirrus rain boots, which are so cute and not to mention, affordable. What’s even better is they contain EverywearTM technology for lightweight, added comfort – and when I tell you they are lightweight, they are SOOO light! Each boot weighs under 1lb, making them 60% lighter than ordinary boots. They come in two different styles (ankle and tall) and multiple colors that are super stylish, so you don’t have to worry about being so drab just because the weather is. Also, can we just talk about this adorably chic clear Totes umbrella? I finally traded in my free-with-purchase-10-year-old pink & black striped umbrella for this clear bubble umbrella and I’m obsessed.
BONUS! Right now, when you buy a pair of Totes Cirrus boots from Macy’s, you can receive a $20 gift card! It’s simple, just visit this landing page to fill out your rebate after purchasing your boots from Macys.com and you will receive your gift card within 2-3 weeks!
Wear bright colors
It’s the little things, friends! On dreary days, it’s easy to subconsciously drift towards the dark end of your color-coordinated closet (your closet is color-coordinated, right?!). But next time it rains, I challenge you to pick out your brightest top and see how it changes your mood (and others!) throughout the day. I do not own too much yellow, but it is definitely the color I gravitate towards the most on a dreary day. That’s why when I saw the cute bright red Cirrus Chelsea boots, I knew I had to have them to add a colorful punch to rainy days.
Load up on healthy, mood-boosting foods
Foods that put you in a good mood? Its science! Salmon, dark chocolate, berries, spinach & kale, almonds are just a few examples of foods that can help boost your mood due to properties such as being rich in magnesium, natural anti-inflammatories, and containing healthy fats that boost brain health. So instead of binging on chips and sugar, choose one of these healthier options that are linked to better moods.
Get outdoors
If all else fails, take advantage of the elements, throw on your cute rain gear, and go play in the rain!
Do you have any tips for beating the rainy day blues?
